OK, it's blurry. But we're sleeping inside the Liberty Science Center. How cool is that?

Running Late

We were on the road a little late, but we made it to the parking lot at the Liberty State Park by noon. Parents said goodbye to their children. Mr. Odebode drove many of us North in a church van, and we made it to the rendez-vous point. Except where was Ms. Nancy? We walked the promenade to the Ellis Island/ Liberty Island ferries, but still no sight of Ms. Nancy. We waited on interminable lines for some sight of Ms. Nancy, while the last ferry boarded. We left her ferry ticket by the gate as we went through security. Finally, as we boarded the ferry, we spotted her, and spirited her onto the ferry seconds before it pulled out. We enjoyed Liberty and Ellis Island, took some spectacular pictures, met a security guard from Ocean County, climbed to the top of the statue's base. At Ellis Island, some of us found the names of our relatives. Then, we got back on the ferry, and started walking to Liberty Science Center. The Center had prepared a surprise for us, but because we walked the wrong way, we weren't going to make it in time! The parents who remained with us started picking up walkers and ferrying them in the right direction. Ms. Jamie's pedometer registered eight miles that day, but we figured we walked about five all together. The surprise was a showing of Star Trek on the I-Max theater screen, the largest screen in America. Ms. Nancy got them to hold the movie (we apologize to those non-walkabout movie-goers who were there) and we ate dinner in the theater watching Star Trek. We explored the Science Center, spread our sleeping bags, and slept inside the museum.

Thank-you's Jersey City Mayor's office, Deputy Mayor McFadden, Liberty Science Center Connie Claman

Coverage to Country Music Station: Kenny Mercadante. Kenny is one of twelve children of Nancy, a very big baseball fan. This is his third year on the walk, third year as a crow.

Liberty Science Center

Bat:
Good cell coverage in the area, and unlimited. Use cellphones to stay in touch.

Ant:
Only anticipated expense would be cost of cases of water, gas for 30 miles.

Eagle: Highlight the beauty of Montclair, the skyline of NY, anything of that sort along the way

We calculate our route to be, conservatively, including turn-arounds and walking on Liberty and Ellis Island, 5 miles.
