The Gatherer Institute is a non-profit organization dedicated to developing learning environments and curricula which will empower communities of individuals to become self-taught and self-sufficient. We believe that by strengthening the individual we can curb the culture of dissatisfaction which leads us to destroy the wilderness. If we spent as much effort on the development of our individual potential as we do on the pursuit for material things, we could co-exist and gather sustenance from the wild places.

We propose to pursue our goals by creating protype tribal communities dedicated to strengthening the mind, body and spirit. These tribal communities caretake and protect suburban lands in danger of development. We work with local governments to provide low cost educational and recreational opportunities, especially, for those with special needs. Currently, we are designing programs in
Heritage and Foreign Language,
Primitive Survival Skills,
Entrepreneurship,
Life Skills,
3-6 Weeks in Utopia

We believe in the sanctity of all life, and cherish all fellow human beings, no matter the age, gender, race, religion, political opinion, nation of origin, social status or nature of mutually consentual adult relationship, and will not discriminate in our hiring policies, enrollment criteria, or membership qualifications on the basis of these qualities.

Having said this, we also seek to provide a safe environment for the free flow of ideas, and support the individual's right to disagree, express contrary opinions, and speak without fear. We cannot hope to improve a situation we are too afraid even to mention. For this reason, it is our policy not restrict speech simply because we disagree with it. Therefore, some of the opinions expressed in these pages may not be opinions which are in agreement with the traditional teachings of the Gatherer Nation, or in accord with our stated policies. If any of these ideas offend, please take solace in the mne9o notion:
